When I'm at home, I read in bed...I can't read sitting on a chair or even an amchair...I had to do so much reading at shool and college, in boarding-school and at home, compulsory readings ,readings for others...
Now I have my bed, a large one all by myself, a bed-side table with the lamp, the pencils, the paper, the post-it...I'm on my back , my head on a pillow and the book on my chest...I use a lot of post-it and don't even know if the word is the same in English...It's so useful to take notes whenever you want , whithout spoiling the books...Most of my books come from the library...I may borrow 11 at once, allright for a fortnight... I buy the ones I'll read several times...
I sleep with the books under the pillow, so whenever I wake up I can have it in a few seconds, just enough time to switch on the light...
I read every night , and when it's time to sleep I know it in a few seconds, sometimes the paragraph isn't even finished...I stop...maybe, I'll wake up at three am and I'll take the book again...I also read nearly every afternoon after lunch, not the same books...I'm very good at reading, I'm extremely clever at it!!! There's nothing I do best actually...I forget, ironing, cleaning...everything...
I can't live without it...
Reading in public-transports was delicious as well when I was commuting from Dinan to St Brieuc, I often missed the station...I still do it now I retired...Some bus-drivers know me well, last week I was reading at the bus-stop, I heard a big noise, the driver shouted:"do you come now or shall I pick you up when you finish the book? "
You often see people feeling nervous when they are waiting somewhere, at the doctors, after doing their shopping and waiting for a lift, at the airport, the post-office...I don't...I usually have the eyes in my book...always one in my bag...
I read several books at the same time...Oh I know not together, you know what I mean...
-One book to think, to go deep inside, one I've read and read...I read just a few pages at a time...
-One to discover new writers, love that...I'm very disapointed when I don't like it...
-One for the story, such as detective novels, as long as the writing-style suits me...I'm getting more and more exacting on the writing...
-and one because it's time for reading it... or because it looks fine or...
by the way...time to leave you...books awaiting...!

I too sometimes have 2 or 3 books that I am reading; sometimes I will pick up a book and only read a few pages and KNOW that I will never finish it as it does not grab my attention enough. I also read a lot of blogs online; so many stories in cyberspace.

I, too, read multiple books (Husband is a one at a time type of guy and marvels). Have you read Annie Dillard: Holy the Firm? And Anne Lamott: Bird by Bird? Lovely...although I buy mine. And mark them up alot and over and underline...you should see my cc of Women/Wolves...
I also read a few books at a time.
One that is a light and silly book, and a couple of heavier non fiction or philosophy ones .
I always read in bed and on trains..cant read like a "grown up" sitting in a chair.

I read several at once too... I don't know if I said: I threw out my television a year ago. I was so depressed and could not concentrate. I was determined to make myself focus on something worthwhile so I got rid of the television which must do more to rot the brain than almost anything else.
Now I listen to Radio 4 (surely you can get it in Brittany: 198 Longwave). And I read my books. I have a beautiful one by TimeLife called something like The Wonderful Oceans... With beautiful pictures, which are good for somebody like me..!....
