I just finished reading "Les Amish" by Anne Rolland-Licour...I also found two interesting web-sites about those communities, one very complete and one with some photos...I must confess I was very surprised that it all started in the east of France "Sainte-Marie-les-Mines" at the end of the XVII° century...In France...my country...where there're none left nowadays...
It's important to read these stories, to learn the way they live...even if our life is so different...we have to learn things...We're not obliged to share everything but we may ask ourselves a few questions:
Are all the modern things I have at home necessary?
Why do I sometimes try to look more beautiful or more intelligent than others ?
Why do I feel so impressed when I read about these people, though I don't believe in God ?
What is missing in my life that makes me envy these people though their life is so strict?
